Cutting Edge Closets & Design is based in Orem, Utah and serves homeowners throughout the Wasatch Front and the rest of the state. We work across the entire spectrum of homes — from straightforward reach-in closets in starter houses to large-scale Parade-of-Homes master suites and luxury garages — with products and price points to match any project.
Every system we build is designed for the specific space it’s going into and the specific person who’ll use it. Nothing is generic. We measure, we draw, we revise, and then we build it in our shop in Orem and install it ourselves. That direct line — designer to fabricator to installer — is why we can stand behind the work with a lifetime install warranty.

Cutting Edge Closets & Design was founded on March 14, 2009 by Bill Bernardi and Peter Hewett — two craftsmen who saw a need for genuinely custom storage in Utah. After 17 years and over 5,000 installations, David Carn acquired the business in fall 2025 and now owns it.
The continuity that matters most is in the work, though. Bill and Peter both still work at the company in sales — they’re the ones you’ll likely meet on a design consultation. Several of Peter’s sons also work in the business across sales, design, install, and the shop floor. The business is bringing in modern tools (the Digital Showroom you can browse here, this rebuilt site) but the hands doing the work haven’t changed.

A closet or garage that starts the day cluttered and overwhelming — the kind of space that quietly stresses people out every time they open the door — can be completely reimagined by the time our team leaves. Suddenly it’s organized, beautiful, and something the homeowner is proud to show off. That moment, when a customer walks into their new space and feels the difference, is what keeps me excited about this business. These are the rooms people use every day, and getting them right changes how a whole home feels to live in.
I came to Cutting Edge after nearly 30 years of leading and growing companies across a range of industries — operations, acquisitions, and turnarounds in contact centers, footwear, and field services. After all that, I wanted to build something closer to home, with a team I knew personally and customers I’d actually meet. My role here is simple: make sure our designers, installers, and shop team have what they need to do great work, and make sure every customer feels taken care of from the first measurement to the final reveal.
I grew up in Naperville, Illinois, earned my MBA from BYU, and live in Draper with my family. Family time is what I protect most fiercely, and when I’m not with them I’m usually learning something new — I’m a learner by nature, and if I’m not picking up a new skill or tool, I get restless. You’ll also find me outdoors as often as Utah will let me. And I speak conversational Spanish, which comes in handy more often than you’d think.

I’ve worked at Cutting Edge Closets and Design for 6 years; I started out in the shop producing parts and worked my way up to handling our most complex specialty fabrication. Now, as a designer and salesman, I use that ‘hands-on’ experience to help clients bring their visions to life. I’m not just designing a layout; I’m building a system I know will work because I’ve spent years physically making them.
Independent — not a franchise
Most national brands sell a fixed catalog of pre-built parts. We don’t. Because we’re independent, every cut, every shelf, every drawer is built to your space — not assembled from a kit.
Lifetime install warranty
Every install we do is covered for life under normal use. If something we built fails, we come back and fix it. Reasonable limits on abuse and accidents apply, but the standard is generous and we honor it.
Built in our Orem shop.
Every cabinet, drawer, shelf, and door we install leaves the same shop in Orem. Industrial Biesse CNC routing and edge banding for precision, dust collection on every machine, and the same craftsmen handling every cut — start to finish. We don’t outsource any of it.
Building everything in-house means we control quality, schedule, and customization at every step. If a piece needs to be adjusted, redesigned, or remade, it happens here — not on backorder from a distant franchise warehouse.
Where we work
We’re an annual participant in the Utah Valley Parade of Homes and a member of the Utah Valley Home Builders Association. We frequently serve homeowners in Salt Lake City, Provo, Orem, Park City, Heber City, Draper, Sandy, Lehi, Saratoga Springs, Farmington, Bountiful, Layton, Ogden, and the rest of the Wasatch Front. We’ve also delivered projects throughout the intermountain west when the right one comes along.
